To nurture a child

The Founder story

Throughout our(Kira & Nama) entire life, living in rural Uganda has lighted us up on how a little one struggles with education and living.
When we were still a kid, we had a common dream of helping my fellow children although we had no ways on how to start this. Luckily, in 2020, we were awarded a scholarship at BIS.
After the outbreak of Covid 19, we discovered a high rate of children especially girls who were marrying early , high numbers of teen pregnancies and no studying at all in our community. This observation led us to create a goal for our Personal Project that states, “To support children in our village to learn new skills that could provide them with purpose.” Our project would support children and share awareness with people about what these little ones go through. We moved on to inquire from the village children leaders, we discovered that this is because a big percentage of girls are getting pregnant due to losing hope of acquiring education due to two years of not learning because of the coronavirus lockdowns. Our plan was to start a project where a group of children could work together and support one another.
After researching and talking with our supervisor, we talked about services that can make an impact to children’s problems i.e, Technical studies. This could help reducing period poverty. Period Poverty is when children can’t afford needs or women cannot afford menstrual pads. About 50 million people across the world are affected by Period Poverty (Davies, “Period Poverty”). Personally, I and my next one have been facing period poverty in our life time that could give me challenging times in our education and lifestyle. We believe some of our fellow children in the community face the same challenges.
Through this project, we supported young children and  teenage moms, and we could work together to combat Period Poverty in the community. Additionally, We shared awareness with communities of Uganda, Our school, and the world about how poor children are struggling with period poverty.
With the love and support from my school, community, and family, we positioned strong belief and dream to change children’s lives to be mended through building a non profit civic organisational structure called JUNIORSTERS’ APPEAL.
Do you know that many boys and girls give up school and work because of period poverty?
